In 2007, 15 years ago, YK Pao School began its first year, alongside which the parent community sparked the formation of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The parents were inspired by Founder Anna Sohmen Pao, who spoke frankly to the first cohort’s parents, saying: “Among you, there is no shortage of Master’s degree and PhD holders, alongside general managers and CEOs. But what does it mean to be a father? How about a mother? How should parents handle disagreements?”

Following this, the parents decided to launch the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Professor Anna Sohmen Pao personally selected the organisation’s Chinese name, which literally means the "Parent-School Cooperation Association,” with the hope that Pao School parents would provide vital support for the growth of their children and the school.

Then, when the Middle School was established in 2011, it set up a Parent-Teacher Association of its own to serve the same role. At first, the Middle School PTA started with 5 parent representatives, but grew steadily in tandem with the school. By the time my daughters Crystal and Ashley graduated in 2017, it had developed into seven Year groups, three functional committees, and a volunteer team of hundreds of people (Rainbow Volunteer Team). Indeed, the PTA has become a bridge of cooperation and communication that connects parents and the school. It strongly supports the school, helping it to accomplish important tasks and goals. In the 15 years since the school was established, the PTA has not only become a distinct feature of Pao School, but also an integral driver of its growth.
