Earlier this year, President Xi Jinping encouraged Professor Anna Sohmen Pao and other Hong Kong entrepreneurs with roots in Ningbo to make new contributions to Chinese modernization. YK Pao School has three campuses in Shanghai, serving a total of 1,600 students with the goal to develop the whole person and to prepare the students to become engaged and responsible global citizens in the 21st century.
Alumni of YK Pao School can now be found all over the world. The graduates at the gathering included those currently study at higher education institutions in Hong Kong, such as the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The event was also attended by alumni who are now actively working in a variety of fields, including high technology, finance, aviation and biotechnology. Their endeavors include a successful AI startup and infrastructure projects in South Africa and Southeast Asia.
The alumni all agreed that Pao School offered an unforgettable experience, nurturing an environment where friendships blossomed, meaningful discussions took place, and self-confidence and a love for learning flourished. A number of alumni also reflected the benefits of the boarding environment, highlighting that the small class sizes fostered a sense of belonging, making everyone feel like part of one large family.
Some parents who originally lived in Shanghai and have since moved to Hong Kong for work also expressed their fondness for the school. Although their children are now attending other schools in Hong Kong, they are reluctant to part with Pao School, and urged the school to look into the option of creating another campus in Hong Kong.
At the event, Professor Sohmen Pao expressed her ongoing commitment to advancing education in China, cultivating young people to uphold the traditions of Chinese culture while also embracing an international perspective.
Professor Anna Sohmen Pao enjoyed a lively conversation with the alumni.
