Teachers’ Appreciation Lunch
In September, the three campuses held the Teachers' Appreciation Lunch, a tradition that dates back to Pao School's earliest days. This year, the preparatory teams, volunteers and all PTA parents expressed their gratitude to the teachers for their hard work. The Primary School produced a video that shared greetings from 362 families on the day of the event. Further, the parents worked hard together to prepare a delicious lunch and a photo booth for the teachers. Meanwhile, the Middle School held an elaborate lunch for the teachers highlighted by exquisite desserts that showed the school's unique characteristics. Everyone savored the meal. Finally at the High School, teachers were treated to delicious local specialties as well as some spectacular musical and dance performances, especially the performance by the Zhoushan Gong and Drums Troupe. Finally, parents from all three campuses presented the teachers with kind and much appreciated gifts.
On Thursday this week, we had the Teachers’ Appreciation Lunch which was a really excellent event that was hugely appreciated by all our staff. I am immensely grateful to the PTA and all parents who were involved in decorating the rooms and producing a wonderful array of food. This has obviously been a difficult year for so many families but particularly for our Expat teachers who have been unable to go home, so events like this which demonstrate to our teachers how much they are valued are of real importance.

Shanghai Symphony Orchestra String Quartet
On September 28, it was our pleasure to invite the musicians from Shanghai Symphony Orchestra ‘East Coast String Quartet’ to our school, who put on a wonderful chamber music performance for our Year 7 students. The ensemble performed a series of pieces for the student audience, also providing an explanation for each piece. It was great to see the musicians interact with the students, helping them to appreciate the beauty of classical music in a relaxed but vibrant atmosphere.
Xueyuan Activity: Spelling Bee Contest
September 30 was the first House Day of the school year, and students looked fantastic in their House T-shirts. After a month-long contest, Autumn House was the winner in September. The school provided every Autumn House student with a little starry gift. Congratulations!
On House Day, the school had a spelling bee. This was not just a spelling contest, but also a test of memory skills and a chance for students to burnish their language skills. After an intense competition, Year 6 Claire won first prize, Year 6 Selene won second prize and Year 7 Leo won third prize.

Experiencing Chinese Culture: Mooncake Baking
Mooncakes are an integral part of the Mid-Autumn Festival, and learning how to make them is a worthy undertaking. On September 26, the Songjiang campus held its first mooncake making course. Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, Pao School employees and students who were on campus during the week-long holiday learned how to make snow skin mooncakes, which are made with sticky rice flour dough and usually served chilled. It was an ideal activity for a holiday that celebrates family reunions. Although teachers and students could not go home to see their families this year amid the pandemic, they still could enjoy the warm, familial atmosphere on campus.
This mooncake making activity is one of a series of Chinese cultural activities on Songjiang campus this year. Pao School will continue to fulfill its mission of passing on traditions of Chinese culture by holding a Chinese cultural experience activity every month.
