Extension Programmes (EP) acts as a supplement to Pao School's curriculum. Offering many courses tailored for students’ interests and learning needs, EP is popular with parents and students. Within EP, there are five categories: Language and Literature, STEM, Sports, and Performing Arts & Visual Arts. Within those five categories are 68 different courses.
At the beginning of each semester, the EP team works with the faculty to manage the EP courses, carefully taking into consideration the professional background of each instructor. At the end of each semester, the EP team organises a special performance that gives students a chance to show off all they have learned over the course of the term.
Ballet | |
Primary students starred in a ballet performance, overcoming their initial stage fright to put on an excellent show. Students handled many aspects of the performance themselves, including costumes and makeup. The most important aspect of this experience was that it allowed the students to build new friendships and strengthen their teamwork skills.
Hip Hop | |
Hip-hop dance is all about moving your body to the rhythm of the music. Pao students performed a dance they choreographed themselves, which was a valuable experience that built their confidence.
Tap Dance | |
The students have made significant progress this term, learning new rhythms and steps. Their progress was reflected in the excellent performance, which was hailed a great success.
At Pao School, students learn how to tell stories with their body language and voices in drama class.
Monday English Drama | |
Primary students performed 12 Angry Pigs, which is based on the classic play 12 Angry Men. Students even created their own animal masks for the performance.
Wednesday English Drama
Year 4 and 5 students rehearsed for several weeks to prepare for the performance of the Greek myth of Persephone. Their meticulous preparation was evident in the impressive performance.
Starlight Musical Drama
In preparation for this bilingual show, teachers used some games to help children to express themselves more effectively. After several classes, the shy kids began to come out of their shells and showed a deep understanding of their roles and the play's themes. The performance turned out to be a great success, as the kids impressed the audience with strong acting and great costumes.
Fencing requires excellent hand-eye coordination, and can be challenging for young children to learn. The Pao students had some difficulty with the sport initially, but over the course of the term, thanks to hard work and perseverance, they learned the fencing basics well.
Students created a wide variety of different handicrafts and artwork over the course of the semester in EP. The exhibition featured everything from dough figurines, paintings and miniature robots.

After the EP Show ended, students voted on the top three performances. They are Starlight Music Drama, Hip Hop and Tap Dance.
The EP Show gives students an excellent platform through which they can cultivate their talents. The audience's reception of the performances is just one part of the experience; even more important are the friendships students forge, the teamwork skills they build, the discipline they develop, and finally, all of the fun they have. Overall, it was a great semester for EP and we hope students remember the experience fondly.
