We speak for Character Education
In early March the Character Education mascots Ying and Kong were formally introduced to everyone. In their red robes decorated with the official school colors of green and orange, they appeared energetic and upbeat. As ambassadors for Character Education, they will be seen everywhere bringing joy to students. They will remind everyone of Pao School's eight character strengths that help students to learn and grow.
Each month, teachers and students will nominate students who demonstrate outstanding character to receive an award and have their photo taken together with Ying and Kong. Ying and Kong will also encourage all students to work to improve themselves. If someone misbehaves, Ying and Kong will be there to remind them to be kind, respectful and tolerant. Only by acting in an upright manner can we make the school a place where students can learn and grow happily.
Looking ahead, Ying and Kong will appear together with students every month, sharing their wisdom about Character Education in an interactive platform.
Felix (Year5C) and Zoe (Year4A)
Each school year, Pao School will choose different students to serve as spokesmen for the character mascots. If you want to be chosen, you need to behave extremely well like Zoe from Year 4A (the spokesman for Ying) and Felix from Year 5C (the spokesman for Kong). Zoe and Felix have applied Pao School's core values of compassion, integrity and balance well, and they also uphold the school's character strengths: They are respectful, reflect on their behaviour, and are responsible, persistent and good at self-management. They are also committed to fostering sustainable development and helping promote environmental awareness at Pao School as part of the Eco Warrior student group.
Since its founding Pao School has focused on whole-person education, of which Character Education is an integral part. Shane Vey, Director of Pastoral Care, says that Pao School hopes the character mascots will play both an inspirational and supervisory role in students' lives. Shane hopes students will dedicate themselves to cultivating good character and improving themselves. He also hopes the mascots will become symbols of Pao School and help us to become a pioneer in Character Education.
