On April 29, Pao School’s Joy Wang (Year 8), Bill Wu (Year 8) and Dino Zheng (Year 7), participated in a theatrical performance event for the recent production of ‘Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land.’ The event was organised by performing art space ‘Theatre Above’ and ‘Midsummer-Good Show.’ Wang, Wu and Zheng were among the four out of 50 theatre troupes from around the world to be selected for this honour. They were also the only group comprised of secondary school students.
After an entire morning of intense rehearsals at Theatre Above’s backstage, the event officially opened. Wang, Wu and Zheng took the stage, seemingly absorbed in a world all their own. All three graced their audiences with stunning performances that were highly praised by renowned theatre director Stan Lai as well as actors Ding Nai-chu and Fan Kuang-Yao, who encouraged them to continue pursuing their dreams and passion for theatre.
‘Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land,’ is one of renowned Taiwanese playwright and theatre director Stan Lai’s best known works. With its intricate tale of two plays-within-a-play, its script and characters are extremely challenging for middle school students. Wang, Wu and Zheng are serious about their craft, often practicing after their evening study periods. This opportunity was not only a testament to their hardwork – it was also a chance for them to hone their skills on a much larger scale.
