On May 23, Year 9 IGCSE Sociology students visited the Shanghai Intermediate Court.
Upon arrival, students were given a tour of the court house and shown where the trials take place for juveniles and adults. They also were given a presentation about the history of Chinese and international law. In the court lobby were art pieces on different legal systems around the world, including the American and Roman systems.
In the afternoon, students witnessed the start of a murder trial. Students saw the defendant being questioned by the prosecution as well as the judges.
It was a fantastic experience for students to observe a real-life trial as opposed to their portrayal in movies and for them to experience the true context of what they have been learning.
