Pao School’s annual Chinese Culture Week kicked off on June 13! This year, teachers prepared a series of lively and interesting activities guided by the school’s missions of developing the whole person, passing on traditions of Chinese culture and fostering an international perspective!
In line with the Year of the Monkey, Pao School specially invited famous Peking opera performing artist and renowned monkey drama performer Yan Qinggu to speak with students and teachers on the art of Peking Opera and monkey drama. Students enjoyed Mr Yan’s explanations of his profound theories and experiences in simple language, and immediately fell in love with Peking Opera!
Hanzi (Chinese characters) are extensive and profound. Hanzi is the foundation for reading and writing, and an important part of Chinese studies at Primary Division. What methods can we use as teachers to stimulate our students' interest and enthusiasm for learning and support them in taking initiative of their own learning in order to help them improve literacy? To help answer these questions, Pao School recently invited Mr Li Shanchuan, researcher from the Shanghai Foreign Language Activity Centre for Youngsters,' promoter of Hanzi and founder of the 'Thinking Hanzi' course, to speak on ‘Fun Literacy.’
Meanwhile, Year 4 students were divided into groups, with each group studying a different type of Chinese tea, showcasing their learning outcomes in a Tea Classroom and Tea Expo. At the Tea Expo, students created colourful booths, carefully preparing and serving their teas and impressing parents and teachers as they confidently and eloquently presented their teas.
