Following the success of the Extension Programmes’ (EP) Open & Display Week, the EP Show opened on January 15 to great fanfare, showcasing the learning outcomes of over 130 EP students.
Pao School Headmaster Wu Zijian opened the show with a welcoming speech, briefly introducing the EP courses and the programme’s goals for the future: ‘Pao School’s EP programmes are both an extension of and complement to the school’s curriculum. They not only develop each student as a whole person, they focus on students’ character development, enrich their lives outside the classroom, and help them become global citizens. They provide students with more opportunities to experience and experience different areas of the curriculum, to explore their interests and potential. Over the course of this semester, EP offered a total of 38 courses in areas that include language, sports, art, science and technology, and music. Over 370 students have enrolled, accounting for 70% of students. In addition, a total of 60 Pao School teachers and professional instructors have lent their expertise in teaching these programmes.’
Students followed with a rich display of performances – Chinese culture, Chinese and Western instrument solos and ensembles as well as folk dance, jazz dance, hip-hop, ballet, karate, fencing, creative handmade figurines, and even a film by the Movie Makers Club.
The opening act by the Pao School Chinese teacher-led ‘Sound of Enlightenment’ programme, showcased the beauty of the Chinese language and culture. Year 1 and 2 students crisply recited poetry, their sweet voices immediately winning over audiences.
Students also put on dynamic jazz, hip-hop performances, swaying to the rhythm, with super cool poses that left the audience cheering for more.
Intense fencing and karate performances brought everyone to their feet!
Year 2 and 3 students donned traditional outfits, bringing a Chinese folk dance ballad to life.
For the show’s finale, members the Movie Makers Club shared their filmmaking experiences as well as their completely self-written, performed and produced film ‘Seeking Harry Potter.’
