On Tuesday, June 2, the winners of YK Pao School Secondary Division's first ever student government elections were announced. Over 30 students from Y8 through Y10 ran as candidates for the 2015/2016 school year.
The campaign lasted two weeks, during which the candidates took part in traditional campaign activities such as Q&A sessions and Town Hall speeches. Throughout these two weeks, every candidate demonstrated their enthusiasm for the job, their eagerness to represent the students’ voice, and their willingness to take on responsibilities. Many of them also created and posted well-thought-out and interesting posters around campus in order to shared their plans, ideas or slogans, giving all other students a chance to learn more about them.
The final voter turnout was over 90% and nearly 2000 total votes were tallied. After a weekend of counting votes, 14 students emerged victorious. The 2015/2016 YK Pao School Student Government is now comprised of the following students: Lucy, Ariel, Harry, Megan, Clementine, Simone, Kevin, Sammi, Gus, Jerry, Erik, Justin, Leaf and Julia.
Elected students will spend the remainder of this school year drafting a student government constitution and bylaws, and then determine areas of student life they hope to focus on and plan for the first months of the upcoming school year.
