Last Saturday, Pao School held its sixth annual Eco Fair. This year, the warm spring weather allowed the fair to take place outdoors, doing away with the congestion and inconvenience of an indoor event.
After enthusiastic opening speeches by Pao School’s Executive Principal Mike Spencer and Deputy Executive Principal Crick Chen, the band and dancers began their show, and students excitedly began running around, selling their wares. Parents could be seen enjoying the performances, comfortably resting on the ground or simply wandering about. Parents of Y2 students could finally relax after over a year of intense preparation. In the midst of distributing information, calculating the number of booths needed, collecting student work, organizing games, they were enjoying this wonderful event so much they forgot how quickly time had passed!
This year’s Eco Fair allowed everyone to truly feel the team spirit of the entire Pao School family as well as witness the progress our students have made: the sports lovers among our students established their own football club and put together their favorite uniforms, while those with a passion for community service formed the BeES (Be Eco Students) team and collected, cleaned, and sorted a large amount of second-hand uniforms. These were among some of the most popular items at the Eco Fair. At the end of the event, members of BeES suggested that each booth donate any unsold books, which would then be sorted by BeES and given to a professional charity organization. This clever idea also meant our little vendors would not have to carry the books home with them!
Without the hard work of the school as well as parents and students, this year’s Eco Fair would not have been the enormous success that it was, earning a net profit of 10002.4 RMB.
It is our hope that with the guidance of Pao School and Pao School parents, future Eco Fairs will become solely run by students themselves, allowing them the opportunity to fully implement their ideas, advocate environmental protection as well as practice environmental protection in their daily lives. We look forward to an even more successful Eco Fair next year!
