This year's theme was "Practice, Innovation,•Growth," attracting over 300,000 students and teachers from Shanghai. The organizing committee invited nearly 300 Chinese and foreign experts to conduct online review, and gave on-spot pre-contest evaluation to those participating in the Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Achievement unit. 203 schools competed in 843 units, with a total of 2360 projects received, the most in 30 years.

The contest is jointly held by 15 units from the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the host district government, with the closing exhibition held at Songjiang No.2 High School. The obstacle-deleting headphone for the blind and visually impaired, the work of three YK Pao School students (Kelly, Jumbo, and Peter), earned acclaim from experts, scoring the top prize in the Junior Secondary Innovation Achievement category, as well as two prizes from the Science and Technology Museum Innovation unit.
