On January 26th, Pao School's CAL students took part in a Chinese bakery workshop. It may not be the first time our international students have baked cakes and cookies, but it would be their first time doing so in an all-Chinese environment.
The activity was set up in a play-and-learn format and was designed in conjunction with our baking instructor. During the making process, teachers gave instructions and students asked questions in Chinese, and while their desserts baked in the ovens, students wrote down any questions they had regarding the ingredients and the process, and posed them to teachers in Chinese.
This was an excellent opportunity for students to not only practice Chinese, but also understand the baking process. Of course, the best part was the end, when everyone had the chance to share their creations. Who knew learning could be so yummy?
