Athletes from YK Pao School’s Primary Division recently achieved great results in competitions organised by the Shanghai School Sports Association (SSSA).
Swimming
The Primary Division team gave solid performances, taking home 8 gold, 6 silver and 11 bronze medals, and both the boys and girls teams achieved top overall scores among all competitors. Tiger Hua, took first place in the 25m butterfly, 25m backstroke, 100m medley, 100m freestyle relay events for boys age 8, while Fei Fei He scored first and third place in the 25m butterfly and 100m medley for girls age 8, respectively. Yoyo Li placed first for his performance in the 25m breaststroke in the boys age 9-10 category. Boys and girls age 8 teams, and the boys age 9-10 team placed first in the relay event, a remarkable achievement considering several students were competing in a series of events in succession. Although sometimes tired, students remained upbeat and enthusiastic.
Volleyball
Meanwhile, in SSSA Volleyball, our Under 11 team travelled to Pao School's Secondary Division to compete in their 1st tournament of the season. Competing up two age groups in the Under 15 tournament was a daunting proposition but our girls were not to be discouraged, playing some fantastic volleyball and bravely competing against girls that were four years older than most of them. Finally succumbing to their YK Pao Under 15 counterparts in the final round, our three entered teams finished in 2nd, 3rd and 5th place overall. A fantastic achievement for a young talented group of players. Thanks to all the parents for their support!
Football
YK Pao School's Under 11 football team travelled to Soong Ching Ling School last weekend to take part in their second football tournament of the year. As defending champions, it was important the team play well and find their rhythm quickly. Despite losing 2 of their 4 matches, our players played their final game with a much better tempo and came away with an emphatic victory over Shanghai High School International Division, taking 3rd place overall with a special mention to Year 5's Jason who won the sportsmanship award for the respect and encouragement he showed throughout the matches. Well done to Jason and his team and thanks to all the parents for their support.
Pao School staff have worked tirelessly to organise these competitions, in hopes that students will not only get active, physically and mentally, but also gain valuable competition experience which will allow them to recognise their strengths and weaknesses.
