Thanks to the generosity of YK Pao School parents, this past summer, 18 Year 10 and 11 students participated in the Parents As Partner (PAP) internship programme, which helps students broaden their horizons, explore potential careers and gain hands-on, real world experience.
Through the PAP programme, these 18 students were able to explore occupations in the media, architecture, environmental protection, design, automobile and education industry. Students who participated in the internship programmes at Shanshui Nature Reserve and JAE Architecture Firm this summer also gave a presentation to share their experiences and thoughts with their classmates. Here's what some of them had to say!
Almost every day we would observe wildlife with the staff at the reserve. We would follow the trail of the wild animals. We went to the ditch to catch insects, observing their bodies to confirm varieties. We would compile infrared camera photographs, only to find one or two useful photos out of some 1000 photos. We would also dig weeds, completely exhausting ourselves but accomplishing very little. Still we were happy and spiritually we got much out of the experience.
Alaxy, Year 10
It is not easy being an architect. This was the deepest impression formed in my mind. You are going to get different tasks every day and you have to be fully responsible for your portion of the work because this will affect the whole project, but when you finally achieve your goal, you would get a great sense of accomplishment and pride in your entire team.
