We aim to create a dynamic and supportive community of teachers who are passionate about pedagogy and who desire to enthuse, engage and inspire our students. We never want our teachers to be micro-managed, measured or monitored, rather we want them to feel trusted and supported by the School and have the confidence to take risks.
We are therefore determined to offer all our staff high-quality training and professional development opportunities. Through the Professional Learning Centre, YK Pao School has created an internal support system and structure that continuously evolves and adapts to serve the needs of our teachers and students to achieve academic excellence.
With a wide range of options, the progamme allows teachers to create an individualised route for their development, which includes pursuing postgraduate qualifications and further professional qualifications like middle management and leadership qualifications. In addition, staff are able to spend time on language studies, cultural skills like calligraphy, and under a varied and interesting range of teaching courses.
The Professional Learning Centre aims to provide a programme of teacher development that does the following:
• Recognizes learning as a process, not an event
• Motivates staff toward practical application and classroom implementation is continuous, engaging, and relevant
• Models differentiated learning needed for all types of learners
• Provides accountability alongside ongoing support
Alongside professional development programmes held throughout the year, the PLC holds the annual Global Education Forum (GEF). In 2021, the event was built around the theme "Education for the Future” – you can find out more about what we did here.
